UMB Safety Update: No known threat following robbery
Dear UMB Community:
At 5:45 this morning, an armed robbery occurred near West Lexington and North Greene Streets. The victim was not injured and the suspect fled eastbound away from campus. University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) police officers are canvassing the area. There is no known threat to the UMB community at this time.
UMB Police and Public Safety works around the clock to ensure the safety of our community, but, unfortunately, crime does occur. These resources and reminders can help protect our community:
- Be aware of your surroundings. Avoid using distractions like cellphones and headphones.
- Trust your instincts. If something seems off, call UMB Police and Public Safety at 410-706-6882. Take a moment to program our number in your phone now. In an emergency, always call or text 9-1-1.
- If someone tries to take your property, give it to them! Your safety is more important than your possessions.
- Request a Safe Walk on campus 24/7 by calling 410-706-6882 or request a Safe Ride from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. through the mobile UMB app.
When a crime occurs, it can be profoundly traumatic for our community. If you need help or support, resources are available:
- UMB Police and Public Safety victim and witness coordinators can be reached at 410-706-6882.
- UMB provides counseling services through the Student Counseling Center and Employee Assistance Program.
- Request a visit from UMB Police and Public Safety Comfort K9, Poe.
UMB remains one of the safest areas to live, learn, work, and visit in Downtown Baltimore. Please remain aware of your surroundings and call us – day or night – if you need anything.
Sincerely,
Thomas Leone, MSL
