Recommended Training for International Travelers

International SOS Safety and Security Training

International SOS has a suite of high-quality multimedia safety and security trainings available to all traveling on behalf of UMB.

Accessing the trainings is quick and easy! Follow these steps to start learning:  

1. Log in to UMB's International SOS portal, click on "My Organization" and scroll down to Digital Learning.

2. Visit International SOS's Digital Learning Platform and create an account. This is a separate account from your main International SOS account that you would use for assistance purposes. If you've already created a Digital Learning account, log in with those credentials.

3.  On the main course page, click on a course to enroll and begin learning!

We highly recommend the following courses:

• Discover Your International SOS Benefits – Learn about the services that International SOS offers and how to access them (20 minutes)

• Travel Risk Awareness (Security) – Foundational information about personal security while traveling (15 minutes)

• Student Travel: Your Security – For students traveling internationally and faculty leading student trips (25 minutes)

• Travel Awareness: Higher Risk – For those traveling to high or extreme travel risk destinations (12 minutes)

• Women’s Security: Advice for All Genders – For special security considerations for women, and also how travelers of all genders can be supportive of their colleagues while conducting international travel (25 minutes)

There are also a number of micro-learning courses with a variety of short videos on topics ranging from LGBTQIA+ travel considerations to natural disasters and hotel safety.

In-Person Learning Opportunities

The Office of Emergency Management offers a number of high-quality, in-person learning opportunities. In particular, we recommend that travelers to high- or extreme-risk travel destinations consider taking Stop the Bleed and Citizen's Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) courses.
